A documentary about young women who have been drawn into the sex trade - and how easy it is for a web-savvy generation to end up making porn. The film is available on Netflix
Hot Girls Wanted is a brilliant documentary that really covers a full picture of young women entering the amateur porn industry. Through the film, you meet a few young women and follow their story and experiences from the start to when a few of them exit the industry. I really enjoyed how the material and ideas in this documentary is presented. In the beginning, they give the viewer a look at the glamour and easy money that entices young women to enter the amateur porn industry. The girls are often naive or ignorant about what they are getting into and only see the perks of their new profession. It is also easy to see that many of these girls are very insecure and get confidence from the validation they receive doing porn.
As the documentary continues, they do explore the other impacts that working in porn can have on someone's life. They explore the emotional reactions and realities for a lot of these girls and the choices she is forced to make if she does not become an instant star and wishes to stay in the industry. Some of the girls end up feeling forced into hard core films that are degrading or painful and they are unprepared in how to say no to these films, often not knowing the full details of the shoot until they are already on the set. These experiences are difficult for most of the girls and they end up rationalizing why they do it to make it easier to bear.
I also liked how this documentary explores the relationships that one of the girls has with her partner as well as her family. They discuss the impacts that this has had on those relationships and the emotional toll it has taken. The film also highlights how many of the girls simply do not tell their families or significant others about their profession for fear of rejection.
Hot Girls Wanted does an excellent job of pointing out some uncomfortable and real truths about the amateur porn industry and the toxic nature of how the business exploits young women. I would highly recommend this film, especially to any young woman considering entering the porn industry.
